Do you need a hook for your videos?
You hear time and time again — you need a hook at the beginning of your videos. Attention spans are shrinking and engagement becomes an increasingly valuable currency.
Well, there’s always some hook “strategies” that increase your chances of going “viral”. Such as using click baiting or fear mongering tactics.
But let’s stick to sustainable strategies. Here’s what we think matters when creating a hook —
1️⃣ How you present the hook
👉 your tone of voice, body language, and expression
2️⃣ Start with a question, an opinion, or a solution
👉 “Is vertigo different from dizziness?”
👉 “Having weak legs? Try these exercises to prevent falls and injuries.”
👉 “You know what I just realized? People with a morning routine seem to know the secret to a productive day. So I put it to the test…”
3️⃣ On-screen captions
Do you know how many people watch videos on their office toilet?
How about parents and guardians with sleeping kids?
Students trying to pass time during a boring lecture?
Hearing impairment?
👉 They most probably muted the audio. Having subtitles are not only important but necessary to grab someone’s attention.
Our take is, you don’t need to stress yourself out trying to come up with a hook.
Focus on the meat of your video. Make sure you’re consistent in your messaging and showing up. Because with quantity comes quality.
Hooks are a great-to-have, not a die-die must have.
